The Luminous Campaign Engine is a set of oversized cards designed to help gamemasters outline their roleplaying game campaigns.
The Luminous Campaign Engine is rooted in the patterns of human storytelling found in literature, movies, television, and other forms of long-fiction. During the setup stage, you take your "cool idea for an RPG campaign" and expand it into something deeper and more engaging. Then, Luminous uses a modified four-act structure to capture a sweeping narrative arc while allowing the players to be the true engine of the story.
Since gamemasters, unlike authors, don’t control the main characters, a forced, highly-structured story can paint players into a corner. The Luminous Campaign Engine provides a flexible system that emphasizes adventure opportunities and player choice.
When combined with The Radiance Adventure Engine:
- A gamemaster can use Luminous to structure a campaign for a group of players, then use Radiance in imagination mode to run individual adventures.
- A solo player can use The Luminous Campaign Engine to structure a single-player campaign, then play a long series of interconnected Radiance adventures in standard mode.
